Why Project Drishti?

India is home to one-fifth of the world’s visually impaired people and Project Drishti is dedicated to them.

Blindness is…..both a cause and consequence of poverty. Most of the people affected by blindness live in some of the poorest parts of India with limited to no access to eye – health care services. Access to vision means health, education and income – especially for women and kids and most importantly it enhances quality of life for marginalised populations.

Project Drishti seeks to prevent and control an overwhelmingly increasing magnitude of avoidable blindness by providing high-quality eye care specifically to vulnerable citizens of the society.

“Having vision makes a lot of difference.”

Health

At least 75% of the blindness cases in India are avoidable, of which nearly 63% are due to cataract in India.

Education

50% f various types of childhood blindness in India is preventable or treatable. Awareness related to Childhood blindness and visual loss is important because of its impact on the child’s development, education, future work, opportunities & quality of life.

Employment

It is a obvious fact that people with visual impairment have lesser opportunities in terms of Employment.

Quality of Life

Blindness can lead to loss of productivity, breakdown of interpersonal relationships, depressive manifestations, loss of self esteem and most people tend to lead an isolated life.
